Create the Canvas Event

Finally. It's finally time to sit still and relax for just a second. The Create the Canvas show went off without a hitch last night. Clint and I really enjoyed getting out together....it's always nice to have some time to ourselves. The show was skateboard-themed so all the artists were given blank decks to use as a canvas. Clint had his pinstriped deck up for all to see....he was nervous and excited to have his work shown to the public. I am his best/worst critic and I really think he has become quite good at pinstriping....I'm proud and happy for him.

I only had two decks displayed. To be completely honest, I did them both the night before the show because I was so wrapped up in finishing my skunks.....which also made an appearance at the show. I know....finished! They turned out cute........

The mustache board (pictured here unfinished) had a decorative border and the quote " A mustache is a terrible thing to waste". Surprisingly, I sold this one to a bartender who was working our event. I was super excited!

Here is the Yeti board...complete with felt fur and glitter. I thought since all of my other wares were crafty and made out of felt, my deck should somehow echo that.

The husband Clint with his mustache....the profits from these 'staches went directly to charity.

Other goodies....

I've come to terms with the fact that this may not have been the best venue for me....lots of flash art, pinstriping, skulls, demons......and then me with rose-scented skunks and pastel boards. I think it's pretty funny. My area was labeled the "craft table"

I think that the other artists that are involved in the shows don't take me seriously or don't view me as a fellow "artist". I would have to wholeheartedly disagree....crafting IS an art. Geez.

So...after selling two skunks, a bunch of 'staches, flower pins and a deck, I would say I broke even-ish.

Looking forward to seeing if I have been accepted to be a vendor in the Detroit Urban Craft Fair. Ahhhh...a sea of "craft tables".
